Welcome to Sterling Meal Prep

Sterling Meal Prep offers ready-to-eat meals delivered direct to you in the Portland Metro Area. All of our meals are customized to meet your macros and portion size using local, sustainable ingredients. Sterling Meal Prep is devoted to helping you discover and maintain the path of healthy eating and delighting your tastebuds along the way. We genuinely look forward to the privilege of cooking for you!

How Does It Work?

Ordering great, nutritious food from Sterling Meal Prep is simple! Every week we will publish a new menu on our Current Menu page. Look it over and, if you like what you see, hop on over to our Order page or click ORDER NOW below. Find the package(s) that suits your needs, add it to the cart and click through to pay. That’s it! It’s as easy as pie and just as delicious (but with out all the calories)!

Our menu is updated every Tuesday for delivery the following week. There will always be 4 different menu items listed. Each delivery will include a varied mix of these tasty dishes or you can choose how many of each menu item you'd like. We always offer a vegan and/or vegetarian option as well and and both standard and veggie packages are available with Extra Protein if that's your jam! 

Orders must be placed no later than 7:00pm each Thursday for delivery the following Sunday between 3:00PM-8:00PM

On Tuesday each week, Sterling Meal Prep posts a new listing of menu items for delivery the following Sunday. When you place your order, be it standard, extra protein or the vegan/vegetarian option, your delivery will include a varied selection of meals from our current menu or you can choose how many of each meal you'd like. We help you stay on track with delicious, healthy eating so you can stay focused on all that other fun stuff. Cheers to that!

Regular

Meal 1 – Chicken Curry with roasted butternut squash, broccoli, onions, tomatoes, coconut milk and brown rice.

Meal 2 – Yucatan Braised Pork (slow roasted pork in banana leaves with Achiote & citrus) – black beans, jicama, citrus & cabbage slaw, pickled red onions & Three Sister’s corn tortilla’s

Meal 3 – Tomato Puttanesca Sauce served over roasted mushrooms & eggplant baked with marinated chicken breast and a quinoa lentil salad

Meal 4 – Turkey Vegetable Chili – Ground Turkey, Ancho Chilies, tomatoes, Kidney Beans, Black Beans, Pinto Beans, Onions, Celery. Served with GF/Vegan Cornbread

Vegan

Meal 1 – Lettuce Wraps - ground turkey with mushrooms, water chestnuts, scallions & sesame, cucumbers, carrots, cabbage, cilantro, edamame salad, Siracha & sesame ginger sauce

Meal 2 – Grilled Beef Fajita’s  – grilled beef, grilled onions & peppers, black bean & quinoa salad, avocado, Salsa, Three Sister corn tortillas

Meal 3 – Cauliflower Coconut Stew with Chicken – cauliflower & chicken roasted with cumin, coriander & turmeric mixed with roasted tomatoes, peppers & kale in a ginger coconut milk, served with a coconut brown rice pilaf

Got Questions?
We've got answers.

Q: Do I get to select which menu items I want? 

YES or you can leave it up to us. We will send a mix of each of the meals that are listed on the weekly menu or, when you add an item to your shopping cart from the Order page, you can choose how many of each of the current week's 4 meals you'd like delivered. Also, if there is something you simply don't like to eat, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. If you sign up for a subscription, you can email us to let us know which meals you would prefer for that week. 

Q: What about those pesky Allergens? I’ve got some issues. 

We like to stay away from those, but if you have any food allergies or sensitivities let us know and we can customize the meal for you. In a nut shell, we cook for you the way we want to eat and practice what has been working best for the goals we have set for ourselves. Some basic “Rules of Thumb” at Sterling Meal Prep are: MOSTLY no dairy , NO sugar, NO wheat. There might be the rare occasion where we want to use a little dairy such as Greek yogurt. We will let you know on the menu. We focus on plenty of fresh, SEASONAL, locally sourced vegetables and proteins. As you place an item into your shopping cart you will be asked if you have any allergies or sensitivities. We do our best to keep your specific needs in mind.

Q: Are all of Sterling Meal Prep’s ingredients organic?

NO, but we lean towards an organic approach. We try our best to source everything locally and utilize organics as much as possible. Offering a 100% organic menu would likely be cost prohibitive for most people. However, we like to cook the way we like to eat which is to use as many organics as possible. 

Q: How long will Sterling Meal Prep meals last in my fridge?

We prepare everything fresh on Sundays and the meals are best eaten by the following Saturday. So, they will remain delicious for about 1 week...just in time for you to reorder!

Q: How much additional protein can I expect to get in the Extra Protein meal options? 

Standard meals have 4oz of protein. The Extra Protein meals offer an additional 2 ounces on top of that for a total of 6 ounces of lean, healthy protein.

Q: Do you include Nutritional Info on the meals that are delivered?

YES. Nutritional Information will be listed on each meal. We will be listing the total calories along with the grams of protein, carbs and fat. We offer instructions for entering those meals into MyFitnessPal here

Q: Do you charge a delivery fee?

Yes. A small fee will be charged simply to cover the costs of labor and gas.

Q: What if I’m not going to be home during your Sunday delivery time? Can I still receive your tasty meals?

No worries if you aren't at home! Simply leave a cooler with an icepack in it outside your door. If you forget to do that, we will provide one. Just be sure to leave it out for us at the next week's delivery.  Everybody wins!

About Chef Joe Sterling

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. It’s tough to recall a time when a roller coaster of ups and downs, plateaus and fad diets did not prevail. You name it, I have probably tried it (or at least contemplated it) if there was a promise that pounds could be shed. But at the end of the day I have come to realize that the key to healthy weight loss and weight maintenance is clean, wholesome eating.

I've been cooking as long as I can remember. It has been my profession for over 20 years and I currently run a successful catering business, Sterling Catering, in Portland, OR. I tell people I went to The Culinary Institute of America, but truly I learned to cook in the fine dining restaurants of New Orleans. I know good food and I like to eat well. So my desire to indulge and my wish to be healthy were at odds with one another.

A couple of years ago I reached a decision to turn things around and really get healthy. I hired a personal trainer and my goal was to be in the best shape of my life by the time I turned fifty (that will be next year)! I have established a practice of working out five days a week at 5am in the morning and since the beginning of my fitness journey I have dropped nearly 70 lbs. Over this past year, however, I had reached another plateau with weight loss and put back on about 10 of those pounds over the holidays. I was still working out consistently, but the weight wasn't coming off. Why? Nutrition! All the best intentions we put forth in the gym can be easily undone in the kitchen if we fail to dial in our nutrition. It took me two years to realize this and change my mindset about eating–not only what I eat but how I eat. When I'm eating the way I know I need to, my weight drops.

As a small business owner and I work a ridiculous amount of hours. It’s been a continual struggle to make time to cook for myself even though I'm literally surrounded by food all the time. I know that sounds crazy. I'm a chef. It should be easy, right? But like so many people, I get busy, wrapped up in my work and, at day’s end, realize either I haven't eaten a thing or I have made numerous bad food choices. I had to find a healthy solution. Alas! This conundrum is the seed from which Sterling Meal Prep has sprouted.

I decided if I was ever going to truly get in the best shape of my life by age 50, I would need to incorporate meal prep into my daily life and into my existing catering business. Meal Prep is simple, delicious andit works! I have all of my meals at the ready– breakfast, lunch, dinner and two protein shakes a day. I don't have to think about where the next meal is coming from or if it is healthy. I can go about my busy day and have peace of mind knowing I’m not going to undo my health by mindlessly shoveling in some empty calories to get me through.
